Get Motivated Quickly: 6 Great Tips

Get Motivated Quickly: There are times in everyone’s life when
they need to light a fire under their you know what. We need to get motivated
quickly,
or else! I’m going through a bit of an “unmotivated” phase at
the moment – and I hate when this happens. I then turn it towards myself and
begin to go on a berating journey. “I shouldn’t be like this, what’s wrong with
me?” I have to pull myself out of the nosedive and get back on track.

Motivation is a driving force which leads
us to complete daily tasks or to attain long-term goals. It is the force that
propels human behavior. It is a desire to do something.

While motivation can start with a mere
thought or vision, it must be followed by action. Sometimes it’s easy to be
motivated. For example, cavemen had no problem hightailing it out of harms way
when a saber tooth tiger had them on the menu. Other times, it can be a great
challenge, like getting started on our tax returns. Personally, I’d rather deal
with the saber tooth tigers.

Our drive fluctuates – the biggest culprit is not
knowing how to get to our objective. We can become paralyzed in our thoughts. The
good news is that we can take measures to get motivated quickly.

Get Motivated Quickly: 6 Great Tips

1. Harness the Power of Anxiety

Not all anxiety is bad. Consider the
consequences of not being motivated. Anxiety is an expert in motivation. Don’t
be afraid of it – let it be an ally in this context.

2. Fake It Till You Make It

Just Get Started! I now, it’s easier said
than done. I’ve found that taking a first step (whatever it may be) is a great
way to build momentum. Here’s another way of putting it: On the rare occasion when
I am not hungry, I will make myself eat something in order to stimulate my
appetite. Guess what? It actually works. The same concept applies to
motivation. Once I make myself work, the process gets easier because the
momentum kicks in and I become laser-focused.

3. Start Small and Slowly Build-Up

Most often, procrastination results from
having too much one’s plate and feeling overwhelmed. Size or difficulty of a
job or assignment can lead to procrastination. Resist the urge to take on more
than you can handle. Focus on one task at a time. Narrow down the task into
smaller, bite-sized pieces. Before you know it, you’ll be checking off the
boxes of multiple tasks and feeling less burdened.

4. Minimize The Number of Everyday
Distractions

The world is full of distractions. Turn
off the TV, unplug from the social media, unplug from the music, just turn the
damn phone off! Put the phone at the opposite side of your home or office.
Learn to sit in silence – embrace it. Let your brain think without all the
static.

5. Rest And Relax for a Bit

I know this seems counterintuitive, but
rest is essential for clearing your thoughts which, in turn, will help you
focus on your goals. Think of it as recharging your batteries. For example, perhaps
you’ve been working on a project for too long and are exhausted and stuck in
the swamp. Try sleeping on it for a while. You will perform better after a good
night’s sleep.

6. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Think about how good you’re going to feel once the project is completed, the load of bricks off your chest. This feeling will actually serve as motivation for future tasks. Remember how you feel or felt and it will serve you well. I hope you will consider these suggestions the next time you want to get motivated quickly.

I feel better already. I have a plan, I will remain focused, and I will be ready to run if any wild animals see me as a turkey with stuffing … Now THAT’S motivation. ~Ted
