A Walk at Radipole Lake – Jessica’s Nature Blog

A gallery of pictures from a short early Spring walk at Radipole Lake RSPB Nature Reserve in Weymouth, Dorset, 12 March 2025. A lot of work has been going on over the winter period. Vast swathes of cut reeds rest in piles, and trees have been cut down. The branches have been put to good use in creating dead hedge boundaries. Path-side vegetation like Alexanders, Winter Heliotrope, and Bluebells are showing fresh leaves. The Ivy remains green, still with massed black berries, while most trees except the Hawthorn remain bare of leaves. Flower buds are now massing and swelling, almost ready to burst open on the Blackthorn, and Alder catkins dangle beside last year’s cones. Yellow and grey-green lichens of all sorts decorate the twigs, branches and trunks of many trees that border this extensive wetland.
