Rocks on the Beach OBS1 – Jessica’s Nature Blog

The oldest rocks at Ogmore-by-Sea on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast are Pembroke Limestone from the Carboniferous era and dating from over 300 million years ago. The slipway to the beach by the Life Guard Station crosses near-horizontal beds of this Pembroke Limestone Group that have been worn away by the action of the sea into a low wave-cut platform at the base of the cliff. The photos show aspects of this outcrop, and you can find more information online provided by the Geologist’s Association, South Wales Group in their leaflet “Geological Walks in Wales – Ogmore-by-Sea, Vale of Glamorgan“.
