Cultivating Inner Peace to Transform the World – Peace Blog

What if global peace started with a simple gesture: learning to know yourself?

On Friday, September 12th, 2025, the University of Ibadan resonated with this idea during the BetterME Forum, organized by the Ibadan Peace Club of Nigeria (IBPCN) in partnership with the World Peace Initiative Foundation (WPI) and other allies.

Over 700 participants – students, young professionals, NYSC (The National Youth Service Corps) members, community leaders, and institutional partners – gathered around a powerful theme: “Peace is Personal: Becoming Better in a Broken System.”

Where Inspiration Meets Transformation

The day began with a remarkable presentation by Olutomiwa, a peace trainer. With passion, he introduced the BetterME Model for self-development and led a 20-minute collective meditation, immersing the audience in a rare and profound silence. For many, it was their first experience with meditation, a truly formative moment.

He also presented the 42-day personal development program created by WPI, encouraging participants to continue the journey of introspection and transformation every day.

Voices, Music, and Truths

Art found its place at the Forum through the performance of Ashu Katherine, whose music reminded everyone of our shared humanity.

A compelling panel titled “Passion, Purpose, and Pay: Finding Fulfillment Beyond Your Degree” sparked an honest dialogue on the challenges youth face in a rapidly changing world.

Partners such as UNICEF and The Sapphires Development Initiative (TSDI) shared testimonials and opportunities, demonstrating that it is possible to combine passion, social impact, and professional success.

When Youth Awakens

The Forum was more than just speeches; it offered real moments of inner transformation. As one participant beautifully summarized:

“The highlight for me was the session on self-image and the broken system. It gave me the words I needed for my life.”

This is the true power of the BetterME Forum: ideas that don’t just float in the air but touch hearts, awaken minds, and inspire action.

An Alliance for Peace

The event was made possible thanks to visionary partners and sponsors: UNICEF, Generation Unlimited 9ja, Chicken Republic, IPSS (Institute of Peace & Strategic Studies), SUG, JCI, Oyo State College of Nursing, TSDI, and NYSC.

What Comes Next?

BetterME Forum 2025 was not an end but a beginning. Every meditation, every shared word, every human connection planted a seed of change.

The 713 voices that gathered in Ibadan now carry a powerful message: peace does not start in institutions or grand negotiations; it begins in the heart of each individual. Because becoming better in a broken system is already the first step toward repairing it.
