Visible Light – Boreal Shift: Ambient Dialogues with Nature – Frequency State

Boreal Shift opens with delicate field recordings from Minnesota’s wilderness, soon joined by a cello’s slow, droning tone. The sound subsides and returns in waves, with melodic lines gradually emerging. Subtle analog synthesis intertwines with the acoustic textures, shaping an immersive and atmospheric soundscape that feels both organic and expansive.

Drawn from their upcoming debut LP Songs for Eventide, the piece is inspired by solar rhythms, seasonal cycles, and the hidden language of trees. It blends site-specific field recordings with instrumental and electronic layers, creating a meditative and contemplative work.

Visible Light is the duo of sound artist Matthew Hiram and cellist Amy McNally, whose practice is rooted in environmental listening and ecological collaboration. Their compositions weave together natural sound, analog synthesis, and extended instrumental technique, resulting in atmospheric works that sit at the intersection of ambient, chamber, and electro-acoustic minimalism.
