Say’s Phoebe – Sayornis saya
Name Roots: (for Thomas Say; Gr. ornis, “bird” – for Thomas Say)
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Overall pale gray and rust colored. Slightly more slender shape than other phoebes. Note pale gray wings, pale rufous belly. In flight sharp-edged black tail is conspicuous.
DISTRIBUTION STATUS IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY
The Say’s Phoebe is a Fairly Common Yearround Resident in California’s Central Valley and can be found in Grasslands and Freshwater Wetlands.
